Here is my homage to the first Eco-Horror Monster…

The Creature from the Black Lagoon has always been one of my favorite monsters. The design by Milicent Patrick is superb (and there’s a really interesting backstory I’ll have to cover soon.)

The original film is beautiful and creepy, with the creature being both horrifying and sympathetic. The humans come in and wreck the joint and the guy who lives there is supposed to just sit back and take it? I don’t think so. In this way it is considered the first ecological horror film. Nature fights back against human kind’s treatment of the Earth. I can dig it.

Update: I am very excited to hear that James Wan (@creepypuppet on Instagram) will be developing a new Creature From the Black Lagoon film for Universal. I hope he honors the original and gives us some new surprises along the way.
