It Came From The Basement

MRKessell-Obey

This Saturday, May 2nd, I will be leaving the confines of my basement studio/man cave, briefly venturing out into the sun on my way to TimeZone Gaming and Comics in Fords, NJ. It’s FREE COMIC BOOK DAY! I will be there along with a few other local artists, come on down and bring the kids!

I will be displaying some of my original weird artwork, some sculpture pieces (including the dragon) and will hopefully have some prints for sale. Come say hello and support some local artists.

Talkin’ about dragons.

Last year I got involved in a pretty cool robotics project. Luckily, I don’t need to know much about the robot part. A group of local Cub Scouts decided that they want to make a robotic, shoulder-mounted dragon puppet. Pretty ambitious. I volunteered to sculpt this model of the baby dragon.

This sculpture is comprised of polymer clay on a wire armature. It was designed so that the head, the wings, and the tail are removable. This should help in the molding process. I will be posting a more in-depth tutorial on the design and sculpting process very soon. Stay tuned.

Greetings! This is my first post.

I’ve been saying for years that zombies are played out. I’m afraid that removing the head and/or destroying the brain can’t stop the zombie-pop-culture-apocalypse. But every few years I’m pleasantly surprised. I thought the zombie genre was done after Shaun of the Dead. That was it.  No one could do any better. Anything more would be played out. Until I discovered The Walking Dead. Then that was it. Played out. Until I discovered World War Z(the book.) Maybe I’m wrong about zombies being played out. Above is an illustration I made a few years back. It’s my own spin on the genre.
