M. R. Kessell works as a Freelance Illustrator, a Graphic Designer and a Dark Artist in New York City. He illustrates book covers, draws comics, designs various products, and creates the illusion of movement as an animator in his spare time.

He is a published author with a handful of books including: IT CAME FROM THE BASEMENT, an original illustrated book for monster kids of all ages, and BATBOY AND THE ART OF SELF-SABOTAGE, a collection of the first fifty Batboy comic strips.

In years past he has worked as Art Director for a handful of indie sci fi films designing sets, fabricating props and generally getting in the way on set.


By day he works as a Project Engineer and a Drafter in the New York City Architectural Metals Industry. You’ve definitely seen some of his work. He is an AutoCAD expert with a keen interest in 3D Modeling and BIM.


He is currently working on book number three in the Batboy comics series, in addition to the weekly Batboy installments you can find on social media.
